FAQ

Frequently Never Asked Questions We Thought We’d Answer Anyway

.

What happened to regular Wednesdays?

Hate to break it to you, our sisters and brothers, but those days are gone.

How do you guys feel about politics?

Well, as we say in our Story, we love our country far more than politics. The two of us don’t belong to the same political party, and we’ve voted for Republicans, Democrats, and so-called third-party candidates, including members of the Green Party, Libertarian Party, Independence Party, and Working Families Party. There are Republicans we agree with on some issues, and there are Democrats we would never vote for (and, it should go without saying, vice versa). All this begs a punning, but serious, question: why do the two biggest parties always sound like more fun than they are? The answer for us is that the DNC and the GOP can’t possibly represent our country’s best interests all of the time, but maybe its citizens can.

Well, what are you guys all about?

We’re about a gradual and continuous progressive change in this country, and we’re about, well, we’re about all this, too.

*

So, where are you guys from?

Matt first lived in Niagara Falls, New York. Eric first lived in Washington (the district that lacks equal representation, not the state). You can read more about Matt and Eric by clicking here.

Do you guys hate big businesses?

Not inherently. There are definitely ethical problems raised by large, publicly traded corporations, and many of those fee-fi-fo-fumming goliath companies (see Wal-MartMicrosoftExxon-Mobil, and McDonalds, to name a barbershop-quartet’s worth) give us the willies. As such, we want to find ways to diminish their power over us and to empower consumers. We try to offer up alternatives to those companies whenever we can on Progressive Wednesday. But we’re all dependant on corporate America, and that will likely never change. At the same time, that doesn’t mean we’ll sit back in our Laz-E-Boys with a tub of butter-soaked popcorn, entertained by the damage done.

All that said, we (Eric and Matt, that is) have money invested in retirement plans that, in turn, invest funds into these kinds of companies. We’ve also both been employed by the behemoths. We use their services every day. We’re not perfect, but we do some of what we can, which is all we can ask of you.

To get back to your question, we suppose we do hate some businesses, but we’re a little embarrassed by the hate in our hearts and a little delighted by it too.

If I disagree with something written or posted on Progressive Wednesday, should I send you a nasty email?

If it’s just the same to you, we’ll pass, but thanks for asking first.

*

You guys hocking any stuff?

Well, yes. We’ve got bumper stickers, t-shirts, a calendar, mugs, and dog clothing (despite our better judgment) for sale right now. There is no mark-up whatsoever on any of the products. We’d just dig any help you can give us to help get the word out.

How’d you make this site?

WordPress.org is our friend. Photoshop is our friend. OpenOffice.org is our friend. Also, our many, many, many generous and too-hip-to-be-square friends are our friends. (Oh, and we wouldn’t be back for a second time without our web designer, who we will gladly recommend to anyone who needs one. The guy’s a master craftsman.)
